Their remoteness and microclimate make the islands a popular holiday destination amongst British holidaymakers, who go in search of sun, solitude, and seal-watching. But their distance and relative isolation from the mainland extend beyond being a hidden tourist gem, and have enabled the isles to take part in a day-long energy-saving experiment.

Submitted by admonkey on 16. February 2008 - 14:15.Millions of small energy saving measures add up. That is the essence of E-Day. With live results on the E-Day website http://www.e-day.org.uk, the only problem I have is that my non-essential laptop may well be turned off.
